April 10 - Hassenfeld Children's Hospital at NYU Langone

Our recent visit to Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone brought out the spring excitement in everyone. We visited 4 girls and 2 boys, plus a few bedside visits. Accompanying our volunteer team was Elsa, from A Moment of Magic.

Our team was divided between two playrooms. We each set up two activity stations: tiaras, nail polish, and Almay makeup, and then superhero capes and color-your-own-drawstring bags. The kids eagerly sat down at the stations and jumped right in. After getting nails painted pink or blue, the girls chose their eyeshadow shades from Almay’s Shadow Squad, like PIxie Dust (holographic pink), Thrill Seeker (bluegreen), Making a Statement (purple), or Unapologetic (coral). A little dot of Almay’s powder blush onto the cheeks and they moved onto the nourishing glosses and lipsticks. After a peek in the mirror, and a touchup of more eyeshadow colors, they chose a tiara and posed for some photos.

One of our guests hosts a YouTube channel, so she had a mini-paparazzi moment while painting her lips in the mirror. The parents get as much fun watching as the kids do doing!

At the other table, kids chose a superhero cape and mask to suit their style and personality. Everyone then chose a drawstring bag to color, also to their style and personality. While they colored, we did a Mad Lib, which kept us entertained thinking of adjectives, nouns, and adverbs.

For just a little while, we were having fun and carrying on like any old friends would do. The energy in the room definitely lifted with the music and the laughter. We’re grateful to Almay and Tribeca Pediatrics for the sponsorship, making visits like this possible.

And a huge thank you to Andrew, Eugenie, and Alora for spending their afternoon with us!
