Oct 14 Vanderbilt Children's Hospital visit summary

This is the party summary for our party October 14, 2014.

This was our last party for 2014.  Reflecting over the year, I feel so very blessed in the children and their families I have been able to meet.  I realize some are just passing through the hospital halls and very surprised to have such a fun event for the day.  Others the harsh reality is that this is what they are now calling a home away from home.  My prayer is that just for a short time we have brought smiles and some laughter to their lives, with rhinestone studded crowns, painted nails, glossy lips, fire trucks, red hats, real live firefighters and queens, some trinkets, and a photo to capture that moment. I hope they know each and every one also stays on my mind and more importantly in my prayers for their healing and health.

The Tutu Ladies once again brought huge smiles with the fabulous tutus and capes the children absolutely LOVE!!!! So thrilled to have them as regulars at our events!! We love to watch as little girls twirl around in their own tutus and the boys running with capes flying behind them.  They now include tutu wands, and colorful mask for the superhero capes!!! We had 8 girls that were treated as Queens, one little girl, with bright eyes, talked the whole time about how excited she was to become a Queen!!  Another feisty one made the statement..”she was so excited she just couldn’t stand herself”!!!  That’s what these are all about!!!  We also were able to make up 6 gift bags for children unable to physically come to the party.

Tori Inman does such a great job on being a role model for these children… It is such a joy to witness her caring and tender moments with these little ones.  We have been so blessed to have wonderful ladies represent their titles so very well.  A huge thank you to all of the volunteers that take time out of their schedules make this such a huge success!    Delaney Henry words cannot express how much I appreciate the love that you have shown to this organization and to me.  Thank you!!!

The boys were treated to the Nashville Firefighters Engine 16, these guys are so great with these kids.  They never hesitate greeting the boys and girls and helping them pick out special party favors.  We had 6 boys excited to hang out and talk to the firemen, they help them pick out party favors and share in some laughs. Our guys received a call during the party and had to make an early exit, to the sadness to one little guy that was waiting on getting his picture taken with them.

Another HUGE thank you to all the volunteers that devote their precious time to put huge smiles on these precious children faces if only for an hour, the memories made in that hour will last a lifetime.

So looking forward to next year with more parties and making smiles!!

Oct 2 Children's Hospital of Providence

On October 2, the Alaska Chapter hosted their 2nd Queen for a Day event at the Children’s Hospital at Providence.

Due to the dietary restriction of many of the girls, we were unable to bring food items, so we had to just make it one big spa day filled with pink lemonade, pampering and girl talk! Because there were so many girls, we decided to put the movie Frozen on in the background to entertain girls while they waited for their turn to have their turn at pampering. Frozen was a huge hit and all of the girls broke into song when “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” came on, and of course they dropped everything they were doing to sing along with Elsa in “Let It Go.”  It was the cutest thing!

One of the younger girls was so excited to have her makeup done and receive her own goodie bag of makeup products that she told her mom she wouldn’t touch her makeup anymore because she has her own now. Two of our little queens were unable to make it to the playroom so we brought the party to them. They were overjoyed to havetheir own private queen party!

I noticed many of the parents enjoy being involved as well, so I plan to bring an activity (picture frame decorating) to future events, so they can be a part of the afternoon with their daughters. Seeing the smiles on the parents’ faces as they watched their little queens enjoy an afternoon of dress-up was so special. This experience has brought many amazing memories for both the little queens and our volunteers. I am looking forward to watching our chapter grow and bring many more smiles to our Alaskan children in the years ahead.

August 21 visit

On August 21, we visited again Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. We saw six girls and two boys.

This party was a lot smaller than we have had this year. But this did not stop the great volunteers from treating the six little girls that were able to stop in for the activities of the day. They were for sure treated as royalty by our queens with nail painting and glossy lips.

The Tutu Ladies join us again with the fabulous tutus and capes the children absolutely LOVE!!!! So thrilled to have them as regulars at our events!! We love to watch as little girls twirl around in their own tutus and the boys running with capes flying behind them.

Such a joy to witness these little girls looking up to the queens that take the time to attend and make these little girls smile so big. We are so blessed to have wonderful ladies represent their titles so very well. A huge thank you to all of the volunteers that make this such a huge success!

The boys were treated to the Nashville Firefighters Engine 16; these guys are so great with these kids. They never hesitate greeting the boys and girls and helping them pick out special party favors. We had two boys excited to pick out capes and to try on the real coat and hat that the fireman wear. Our guys received a call during the party and had to make an early exit, to the amazement of the children.

Another HUGE thank you to all the volunteers that devote their precious time to put huge smiles on these precious children faces if only for an hour, the memories made in that hour will last a lifetime.

June 17 - Monroe Carell Jr Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt

We had 12 girls very excited to have the Queens painting nails and adding some gloss on the lips. The Tutu Ladies join us, and I told them that I hope they have become a permanent attendee at our parties, the kids LOVE the time and attention these ladies put into making their visit the best. We watch as little girls twirl around in their own tutus and the boys running with capes flying behind them.

Such a precious site to see these little girls looking up to the Queens that take the time to attend and make these little girls smile so big. We had Mrs. Tennessee United States Rachel Briley-Neudecker and Ms Tennessee United States Lauren Wallace join us today. We are so blessed to have wonderful ladies represent their titles so very well. One family could not believe we had real Queens attending. One little girl was so excited that she got her very own real crown to keep, because her plastic one had just broke.

A huge thank you to all of the volunteers that make this such a huge success! I have some great “regulars” that are so very dependable, cannot thank you enough for your help. Many great helpers that do not get to attend the parties, but are very instrumental in making this event so successful.

The boys were treated to the Nashville Firefighters Engine 16, these guys are so great with these kids. They never hesitate greeting the boys and girls and helping them pick out special party favors. We had 7 boys excited to pick out capes and to try on the real coat and hat that the fireman wear.

Another HUGE thank you to all the volunteers that devote their precious time to put huge smiles on these precious children faces if only for an hour, the memories made in that hour will last a lifetime.

Event summaries - June 6 & June 11

On June 6th, we hosted 11 beautiful girls for Queen for a Day at Phoenix Children's Hospital. After the traditional make-over and manicure, the patients created a fashion show runway out of our red carpet and completed their runway tour with a photo.

On June 11th, we hosted 9 boys and 3 girls for Hero for a Day, with customizable capes for everyone.

One little boy requested that his mom, dad, and brother make a cape and wore a fireman's helmet with him to make him feel more comfortable... which was super cute!

We had one little boy who was a little bit older so initially wasn’t too excited about the event. But after checking everything out he finally asked if he could make a fireman cape and we could attach the fireman's hat to the back of the cape....so he could be like a real fireman! Not just pretend. He ended up wearing the cape and loving it.

The 3 little girls that came to Hero for a day ( that did not attend QFAD) loved making the superhero capes! All in all both events were a great success and PCH was very happy to have QFAD at the hospital. They are looking forward to working with us again.

April 24 - Sparrow Hospital

"Royal Tuck-In" Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, April 24, 2014
By Beth Monicatti Blank-Sparrow Hospital, Tuck-In Coordinator and FADF Advisory Board Member

Thanks to a great group of volunteers—Amy Wozniak, Mark Suszan, Erin and Paula Jenkinson we had a wonderful “Tuck In” last night at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Blankets, books, stuffed animals and bright flashy items made the kids smile. Our wonderful leader Cynthia Meteyer from Sparrow Hospital brought us to the rooms of 14 kids, ages 10 days to 17 years.
