Unique Experiences for Families with a Child with Cancer
We love bringing families together and we work to create unique family time for our miracle families. If you have a child with cancer or another life-threatening illness, please allow us the honor of supporting your family through precious time together without the stress and worry of cost or planning. Below you will find examples of past experiences we have arranged for local families and those staying at Ronald McDonald Houses. Take a look and register to get the conversation started.
We recognize that memory-making is different for every family and their unique situation. To accommodate as much nuance as possible, we’ve created two primary options to choose from:
Single day experience: A themed experience of your child’s choice e.g., a birthday, day at the zoo or ball game. We take care of the logistics and fund the full day so all you have to do is enjoy your time as a family. Our current budget is pretty small, but we will work to get donations and discounts to make your day happen. If we can’t bring it together within a reasonable time frame, we will work to bring you something else.
Micro-experiences: Choose to have a number of smaller micro-experiences over the course of several days, weeks, or months e.g., gift certificates for your child’s favorite treat, movie passes, or a combination of things. For these experiences, we provide the funding and you complete them on your family’s schedule.
special events
Through our volunteer network, we arranged for a patient and his brother to attend a Vikings game, including transportation to and from the game. Then, we hooked up Emersyn with her favorite basketball team, the Minnesota Gophers, with behind-the-scenes access and one-on-one time with her favorite coach and player.
parties
For Maddie, we arranged a limo ride from school for her and a few friends on the last day of school. They were taken to Dairy Queen for an ice cream cake party, where she received a special visit from Belle. For a special unicorn-loving patient, we decorated her room with unicorns and sent a package of sparkly make-up to test on willing family members.
Getaway days
We gifted Kalo a night at the movies and dinner at his favorite CPK - just a normal family night together. For another patient, we facilitated a glow-in-the-dark pizza night with their siblings in their hospital room. And yet another family escaped the hospital for a day with a trip to the aquarium.
micro experiences
With social distancing restrictions in place, we’ve been sending KiwiCo kits to our hospital partners and subscriptions directly to families for ongoing support. We’ll also help arrange other micro experiences to maintain normalcy for your family and build traditions through the little things.
This is just a taste!
