Today we visited Florida Hospital for Children. We set up in the playroom and met Mariah (11), one boy and a sibling. Many children were not feeling well or napping, so Nussi and Zuli, the hospital’s Child Life Specialists, took a few capes and masks to the rooms of 3 girls and 2 boys.
The kids that came to the playroom picked out their superhero outfits and sat down to decorate their picture frames and do some coloring. We served mini bundt cakes and handed out superhero backpacks with some fun items to keep them busy in their rooms.
We were fortunate to be allowed to visit a few children in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. After putting on our little blue shoe covers and washing up, we brought capes, masks and activities to one very smart girl, one outgoing young man (also known as the unit’s undefeated Connect 4 champion!) and one sleeping boy.
I want to thank our volunteers, Betsie, Celene, Emma and Jan. Nussi and Zuli were wonderful to work with! We look forward to visiting Florida Hospital for Children again this summer!
In total, we saw or left items for 6 girls and 5 boys.
