With fall and Halloween abuzz, 6 volunteers met at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore to bring Queen & Hero for a Day to 11 girls and 5 boys, including 3 volunteers from Almay’s PR team.
Volunteers were divided into two groups, to cover both inpatient floors and the outpatient clinic. In the playroom, Laine, Jayesh, Debolina, and Jenna presented the makeup, nail polish, and tiaras to the kids. They were delighted with all the colors to play with! One little girl, about 6 years old, wanted to do her own makeup and could not stop applying the blush all over her face. She was also obsessed with the lipstick and wouldn’t even bother with wiping it off before applying another color. At the end of the visit, she said her mom would be upset with her, because she’s not allowed to wear lipstick. As she left the playroom for lunch with blush caked all over her face and lipstick drawn all around her mouth, we understood why! Sorry mom!
We then visited a couple of teenagers in their room. One teen girl was nearly asleep when we first arrived. As we talked makeup and nails, and she picked out some products, her face was animated and she even sat up to talk more with the Almay volunteer. On the other side of the curtain, the other Almay volunteers were doting on another teen girl, teaching her how to use the products so she can dress herself up at any time.
We’re grateful to Montefiore for allowing us to bring our activities and we look forward to creating more opportunities together! We’re also grateful to our volunteers: Jayesh, Debolina, Laine, Farah, and Brynn, for giving their morning!
