Today I went to see a patient that we met during our Holiday 2019 visit. This patient was an inpatient in the hospital for over a year. When we met in December, Santa asked what he wanted for Christmas. Without hesitation, he said, and I quote, "The new Air Jordan 11 Retro Bred sneakers!" I saw Nussi, a child life specialist, jump on her phone, and before we discussed anything, I promised her that FADF could make it happen.
After the visit was over, Nussi and Zuli relayed his shoe size and the hunt began. After a few weeks, the sneakers arrived, but not before I found out he had been discharged😊 So we arranged for me to visit during one of his outpatient treatments.
The day finally arrived, and Zuli escorted me to his room, belated Christmas gift in hand. He was still jovial and silly...his mom sitting nearby. He slowly tore the candy cane stripe wrapping paper and immediately recognized the box...Nike. But he did not remember our visits or that he had made the request aloud. He opened the box and realized he now owned an awesome pair of Air Jordan's! The visit didn't last long, but his smile made the day. Hopefully he is enjoying wearing his new kicks at home!
Thank you to Nussi, Zuli and our generous donors for helping us give him a special gift!
