On November 15th, the Dallas Chapter had its first opportunity to visit with wonderful, fun kids at the Medical City Children’s Hospital. With huge support from the Medical City’s Child Life Specialist, Lauren Ransbottom, we were able to bring some fun, laughter and adventure to 4 wonderful kids, Ben, Maddie, Star and Mohammed.
We arrived during kids’ lunch to have some time to prepare the room and set the tables. The facility had a great room with enough space for us to set two separate areas close enough for the kids to interact.
In the girls’ area, we hung a rose gold fringe curtains photo backdrop and garlands to add glamour to the room. Our makeover table in the center of the girls’ area sparkled with hearts and stars and had different options of makeup, individual mirrors and a box of adjustable crystal rings. After the girls’ makeup was completed, they then had their nails polished with a polish of their choice. The most exciting part of every makeover turned out to be the ring selection. We brought in a heart-shaped box of adjustable princess rings with stones of different shapes and colors. Each girl picked two rings that matched their makeup and outfit. The rings were a perfect addition to the staple of the party, tiara. Our girls were even able to match the ring stones to the tiara colors.
Star, our 16-year-old friend, picked tiara with purple and green center stones to match her beautiful dress. She shared that her family came here from Iran. She likes to watch horror and suspense movies. Maddie fell in love with a blue stoned tiara as soon as she saw it and said it reminds her of her favorite movie Frozen. Maddie came to the party with her grandfather and was very adamant about not taking his advices on makeup because he is a boy.
In the boys’ area we had a super city theme photo backdrop, superhero masks and capes. As soon as the boys entered the room, they were ready to transform into their favorite superheroes. Both Ben and Mohammed had their IV poles following them everywhere but that didn’t stop them from posing for the camera demonstrating their capes and masks. Although Mohammed’s family didn’t want him photographed, we gave them an option of taking his superhero pictures with their personal phones. Ben, who’s 12 years old, really enjoyed being in front of the camera by himself and with his mom. Ben is a very serious and artistic young man. He’s an expert in Minecraft and is one of the participants of a big online community of Minecraft pros.
